10 Point - October 3, 2010

I'm going to apologize in advance because this story is probably going to be way longer and more drawn out then it needs to be but I'll try and make it a condensed version.

Last night at 6:55 (Sun. Oct. 3) My wife Sara and I went out hunting to my Uncle's  farm in Grand Ledge and Sara sat in her double ladder stand and I sat in my stand about 60 yards away from her.  Almost as soon as we sat down we had deer around us and before long we had does a 6, 7, and 8 pointer around us.  They were all 1 and 2 year old deer and any one of them would have made a great first buck for Sara but unfortunately they were all closer to me then they were her and she couldn't get a shot.

Eventually the 7 point worked his way over to within range of Sara and she draws back her bow to get ready to shoot it.  Just then the doe that was underneath me looked up into the pines in the opposite direction of where Sara were and down comes this big 10 point.

I quickly come to full draw, Sara still at full draw sees me at full draw and looks over just as I shoot this big boy at 36 yards, he runs right over to her and stands 15 yards from her so she shoots him too!

After a long tracking job we decided to wait until morning to come get him because he kept bedding down and then get up again so we figured we were pushing him and figured it'd be best to wait until morning to get him.  Thanks to the help of my excellent tracking crew we were able to find him right away the next morning approximately 20 yards from where we had stopped tracking him the night before.

We weighed him at my Uncle's pole barn and his live weight was 230 lbs.  It was by far the most memorable hunt ever for both Sara and myself and it made for a heck of a first buck for Sara!
